Ty Williams has resigned as the head coach of the Northern Pride.
FORMER Queensland representative Ty Williams has resigned as the head coach of the Northern Pride and will finish at the end of the season.
“Ty has decided that it is time to take a well-deserved break from the rigours of the game. This decision is driven by a desire to prioritize family commitments, and some time to consider other opportunities,” said the club in a statement.
“As a club, we respect Ty’s decision and wish him, his wife Kristy, and sons Kyan and Bodhi nothing but the best during this period of transition.
“The legacy he leaves behind and the lasting impact of his contributions to the Northern Pride will be valued for years to come.”
Williams was the captain of the Pride from 2011 to 2013 and took over the coaching reins in 2017.
“Throughout his tenure as a player and coach, Ty has been an integral part of the Northern Pride, and his impact on the club’s history and rugby league, in general, has been enormous,” the Pride’s statement said.
“From his early days as a talented player at the North Queensland Cowboys to his transition into coach, Ty has exemplified the true spirit of the game and has been an inspiration to players and fans alike.
“Under Ty’s guidance, the Northern Pride has achieved remarkable successes, with notable accomplishments and memorable moments etched into the history of the club.
“His coaching philosophy, fixed on teamwork, respect, and perseverance, has created a culture that will continue to shape the future of our team and its players.”
With three rounds of the regular season remaining, the Pride are still very much in the finals race, sitting in eighth position after drawing 24-all with the second-placed Burleigh Bears on Saturday.
The club is now searching for a replacement leader for the 2024 season.
“The Northern Pride will now get on with the process of selecting a new head coach. We are committed to finding a replacement in a timely manner, who will embrace the values and vision of our club, ensuring a seamless transition and continued success on and off the field,” the club’s statement said.
