Another cyclone is expected to hit North Queensland this week and while Cape York is not expected to be in the firing line, authorities are warning locals to be prepared for more heavy rain.
The latest tracking forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology had the system crossing between Cairns and Mackay, with the Townsville region most likely to be hit.
The Bureau said the system could develop into a category one cyclone today and reach category three strength by mid-week.
It’s expected the system will impact the Queensland coast from Wednesday.
Cape York should expect heavy rainfall this week and road networks are already hanging on by a thread.
The Peninsula Developmental Road has been closed throughout the past week due to flooding at Laura and Archer River, as well as Myall Creek.
The Mulligan Highway has also been closed due to flooding at the McLeod River, as well as Spear Creek at Mount Molloy.
Police are asking motorists to avoid plans for driving in the region this week.
