Ashleigh Lievore unleashed her top form to chalk up the only personal best time in the 66-strong Weipa parkrun field during testing conditions on Saturday 24 January.
With the event experiencing its traditional new-year spike in numbers as families returned to western Cape York ahead of the 2026 school year, Ashleigh finished the 5-kilometre circuit in 36 minutes, 37 seconds.
Twelve first-timers tackled parkrun #455, including Rohan Anderson (22:18), who made the most of his maiden outing to finish second overall behind event stalwart Chrisden Russ, the first to greet the timekeepers in 20:45.
Amanda Haines was the first female across the line in 28:19.
Amanda Allender, Lisa May, Chris Blythe, David Tuckwood, Calvin Waia, Emma Eyre and Luke O’Day pulled on the volunteer vests to ensure the morning went off without a hitch.
Weipa parkrun is held every Saturday at 7 am at the shelter beside the hospital roundabout in Nanum; new participants are welcome.
