Not even two birthday wishes and a beautiful spring morning could get a solid performance on the course out of Dawnbusters, who mostly carded less-than-ordinary scores in Sunday’s golf showdown.

Jon Dall, celebrating another year around the sun, could not seem to tame the course, carding a massive 60 off the stick. He put the unexpected score down to his twin brother – Scott “Silent Assassin” Triffitt – not being in Weipa and out enjoying his birthday in Townsville.

Vivian Chan seemed to be the only one on the ball, showing everyone else up when she carded a 46 off the stick.

It was, however, Peter Kenny who took home the box of chocolates for the morning, thanks to a handicap of 33 shaving a significant chunk off his 51 off the stick.

Lilly Pembar, playing her sixth game of Dawnbusters, netted a 19 to secure second place and the Bridesmaid award. Pembar also pulled out the big guns to take out the women’s longest drive alongside Ben Woods, who swung his way to men’s longest drive glory.

Brandon Pembar took home his second Hoffman’s award in a row, while Peter Moore, who was unable to hit a ball all day, pulled it together on the very last hole and proved his accuracy to nail the nearest the pin on the 9th.

New players are always welcome as Dawnbusters take on the back nine on 20 September, with an expected tee-off time of about 7 am.
