Triff eyes open ace
Scott Triffitt produced the best nett scorecard of the group of 16 golfers who contested Wackers in Weipa on 22 April with 42 off the stick, and the 18th pin prize to add to his haul.
With his eye on an ace in the 2026 Weipa Goodline Open, Triffitt’s fellow Wackers have regularly heard him boasting his winning speech is already penned.
He didn’t get to practise the speech on Wednesday, however, with Carolyn Head taking home the chocolates with a one-shot victory over the in-form Dave Sands.
The 15th pin prize went begging, with an extremely hydrated Pete Moore getting his hands on the Bradman’s gong.
Hetaraka steals Stableford
With early gusting winds, slow greens and magnet-like bunkers, competitors were challenged from their first shot until their last in a Stableford event at Cooktown Golf Club on 25 April.
El Presidente and former perpetual bridesmaid Brent Hetaraka snatched victory with 32 points, with Lance Jennings claiming second spot on the leaderboard with 29 points.
There was a three-way tie for third, with visiting golfer Stephen Nelson prevailing on countback.
Hetaraka also collected the pin prize on 2/11, with Terry Young bagging bragging rights on 9/18.
