Cooktown is readying for one of the biggest events on the Cape, with less than seven weeks to go until the Discovery Festival — and a gig by Aussie rock favourites Kingswood.
Cook Shire Council has launched a new festival website to help promote the 19-21 June event and is hoping to draw visitors to town from far and wide, particularly across the Far North.
Mayor Robyn Holmes said the launch of the fresh Cooktown Discovery Festival website signalled the official start of the event’s countdown.
“The Cooktown Discovery Festival is one of the most anticipated events on our calendar, and this new website really captures the energy, excitement and spirit of what’s to come,” she said.
“With just weeks to go, now is the perfect time for people to start planning their trip, get involved and be part of something truly special for our community.”

Kingswood is the headline act for the festival’s free Saturday night concert, and the council expects the show to attract a crowd from across the region and beyond.
Other drawcards include the colourful Cook Shire’s Got Talent competition, street parade and busking competition.
The council has encouraged residents, performers and groups keen to get involved to hop online and secure places early, amid strong interest this year.
Attendees will also enjoy workshops, various performances and riverside markets.
