Hunter wins mug of the month
Jim Hunter relished the hot and humid conditions to be the overall winner in the Carpentaria Golf Club’s monthly medal round on Saturday.
In a field of 27, Hunter had a nett 70 to win B-grade and claim the mug of the month.
A-grade was won by Jamie Hutton with a nett 73, while Clint Wonfor had the same score to win C-grade.
Nearest the pins went to Jeff Watson and Bernie Single.
Slim win for Gaz
GARY Head beat the hot and muggy conditions, as well as 12 rivals, to be last week’s Wednesday Wackers winner at Weipa’s Carpentaria Golf Club.
He had a nett 33 to triumph by half a stroke over Ross Craven.
Randall O’Neill picked up the Bradman’s prize and Scott Triffit was the nearest to pin winner on the 7th.
Dawnies say goodbye
THE Dawn Busters family had a sad morning on Sunday when they farewelled two popular regulars.
Scott Triffit and Phil Aspinall played their last rounds as they look to relocate down south.
Jamie Hutton was the winner, beating David Freiberg.
Triffit had the longest drive and Robyn Austin collected the Hoffman’s gong.
Big win for McGowan
JAYDE McGowan carded a personal best score of 73/59 to blitz the field in the Cooktown Golf Club’s Medal of Medals pre-qualifier.
Played in hot and steamy conditions, McGowan hardly put a foot wrong during his round and also gathered 580 points towards his Race to the Bay charge.
Runner-up was Wal Welsh with 83/6.
Third on a countback was Steve Butler, who pipped his brother Rick.
The nearest to the pins went to Mark Rolan on 2/11, Steve Butler on 14 and McGowan on 9/18.
This weekend’s round is a red tee triple point stroke event.
