Members of the public have been quick to support the gift drive of Weipa Community Care to make sure that children in care don’t miss out this Christmas.
Community development officer Christine Owens said Weipa was ultra reliable when it came to digging deep for those in need.
“Weipa never disappoints you and once again the benchmark has been set high,” she said.
“We’ve had adults, children and people from all walks of life come in and donate gifts.”
Ms Owens said she was blown away by the charity of Goodline, who dug deep to provide a large number of gifts and groceries.
“We know (owners) John and Cath Kennedy are very generous people and great supporters of the Weipa community but this was the workers who gave up their own hard earned money to donate,” she said.
Tackleworld Weipa also helped Goodline by donating some fishing rods and reels, which blew the workers away.
“Those kids are just going to love seeing those fishing rods on Christmas morning. I was I could be there to see their faces,” said Weipa Community Care CEO Josephine Tait.
All of the presents donated by the Weipa community will be handed to the Weipa Child Safety Hub on Tuesday morning so they can be distributed to foster parents and carers in time for Christmas Day.
