There is no better way to celebrate a significant milestone than surrounded by your parkrun family, and that is exactly what Deb Hamilton did in Weipa on 10 January.

After notching up her 100th parkrun on 3 January, Hamilton and 19 participants marked her achievement with cake – and delicious chai – on Saturday, following the conclusion of the 453rd weekly instalment of the event.

Joshua Stanek was the first parkrunner across the line in wet and steamy conditions, stopping the clock over the 5-kilometre course in a time of 22 minutes, 53 seconds.

Parkrun veteran Ross Dawson (22:58) and young Ryder Street (26:39) were hot on Stanek’s heels over the trip, with Claudia Ryan setting a personal best to be the first female home in 29:31.

Matthew Stokes and Meg Rintoul also recorded PB times for the run.

Junior participant Biko Fielding laced up his shoes for his maiden parkrun and was the only first timer in the small field.

Hamilton, Nicola Campbell, Vanadana Chaturvedi, Fiona Dyer, Damien Fogarty, Camille Freiberg, Ali Scott and Susie Tuckwood volunteered to ensure the morning was a success.

Weipa parkrun is held every Saturday morning at 7 am at the shelter next to the hospital roundabout in Nanum.
