Opera Queensland is set to bring a free world-class concert to the picturesque Cooktown waterfront in coming weeks, Cook Shire Council has revealed.
Bravo! Opera’s Greatest Hits will be performed on the William Daku Waterfront on Thursday 22 October.
Cook Shire Mayor Robyn Holmes has her fingers crossed the weather is clear and the town can enjoy the show under the stars.
She described the Opera Queensland performance as a rare opportunity for the community and visitors to experience something a little different.
“Opera at the Cooktown waterfront is certainly not something that comes along every day and that is exactly why people should come and give it a try,” she said.
“You don’t need to know anything about opera. Pack a picnic, bring your family and friends and enjoy a magical evening of extraordinary music under the stars.”
The concert over 80 minutes will feature well-known arias, duets and ensembles by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Bizet and more. Organisers promise the show and its soaring melodies will suit both seasoned opera lovers and curious first-time audiences.
Bravo! stars current and former Opera Queensland Young Artists Nick Kirkup, Lachlann Lawton and Maddie Stephens, as well as Western Australian artist Chelsea Burns, who will be accompanied by pianist Beverley Kennedy.
“Created for seasoned opera lovers and curious first-time audiences alike, Bravo! promises all the passion, drama and musical brilliance of opera in a warm and wonderfully accessible concert experience,” the council states.
“Warm and engaging introductions will reveal the stories, characters and composers behind the music, making Bravo! an entertaining introduction to the extraordinary world of opera and a memorable night out for audiences of all ages.”

The Cooktown performance, which is part of Opera Queensland’s 2026 regional tour, is coming to town thanks to the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) partnership involving the council and Queensland Government.
