A new face made his mark on the Weipa parkrun field when 39 early risers laced up their shoes for the weekly Saturday morning run on 26 September.

First-timer David Meadway could not be caught when he greeted the timekeepers at 20 minutes, 54 seconds — almost a whole four minutes in front of his nearest competitor.

Sam Bartsch was next across the finish line at 24:25, followed by Chandy Koruthu with a personal best time of 28:02 and Hadley Fielding with a time of 28:18 to be the first female home.

Bianca Carilaf, Santiago Aranda and Sofia Sanchez were the other participants to notch up PB efforts on the day.

Parkrunners welcomed nine newbies in addition to the morning’s winner — Pippa Dredge, Joanne Voyce, Tamara Olley, Kallum Topp, Rose Salisbury, Jan Baxter, Yvonne O’Neil, Jamie O’Neil and Michaela Reece.

This week’s volunteering thanks went to Tyrone Tuckwood, Nanthini Kanthan, Richelle Ryan, Steven Katene, Susan Tuckwood, Michaela Reece, Michael Rowland and David Tuckwood.

Anyone wanting to join the parkrun excitement every Saturday morning can do so by assembling at the shelter next to the hospital roundabout in Nanum before the starter’s pistol fires at 7 o’clock.
