What’s not to love about kicking off the weekend in Weipa by pounding the pavement surrounded by friends? Photos: Weipa parkrun Facebook.
Nine personal bests were set in a field of 61 who pitted themselves against Weipa parkrun #469 on 9 May.
Ross Perry was the first finisher to cross the chalk line in a time of 21 minutes, 46 seconds, with first-timer Brad Hay hot on his heels in 22:26.
Kat Hansen delivered a PB performance of 23:06 to round out the top three and be the first female to say good morning to the timekeepers.
Ariel Ampado, Tyrone Tuckwood, Tamara Lambert, Ashleigh Lievore, Natasha Davui, Rebecca Hafner, Jessica Rex and Michelle Deer were the other participants who laced up their shoes to record a PB.
It always takes a volunteer army to make any event run smoothly, and this week it was Nicola Campbell, Arthur Campbell, Emma Eyre, Michael Rowland, Lyndsey Fielding, Nanthini Kanthan, Damien Fogarty, Ben Fielding and Biko Fielding who donned the hi-vis vests.
With the tourists starting to roll into Weipa, everyone is welcome to join the parkrun family if they feel like kick-starting their Saturday by challenging themselves against the course.
Participants are asked to assemble at the shelter next to the hospital roundabout in Nanum prior to the starter’s pistol firing at 7 am each week.
