Weipa Bowls Club’s Dwayne Brooks and Patricia Price have continued their impressive run of form, securing a place in the Queensland Champion of Club Champions final after a dominant performance at the zone finals in Townsville.

Representing Weipa and the Tropical Far North Queensland Bowls District, the experienced mixed pairs duo travelled to South Townsville Bowls Club, knowing they would face some of the strongest opposition from north and north-west Queensland.

Their opening game proved to be the toughest battle. Brooks and Price were against the much-fancied north Queensland combination of Sandie Print and Steven Mottin, representing their home side of South Townsville.

Brooks and Price were locked in a marathon contest that went the full 21 ends. With neither side able to gain the ascendancy, the match eventually finished 18-all, after more than four hours of intense competition.

The result left everything to play for, with North West Queensland then defeating North Queensland 19–17 in the second game.

That result set up a must-win final for the Weipa bowlers. With a place in the Champion of Club Champions play-offs in Mackay in November on the line, Brooks and Price rose to the occasion in emphatic fashion.

Facing the strong North West Queensland pairing of Bev Peter and Tom Hynes from Mt Isa, the Cape partners produced their best bowls to record a convincing 21–12 victory.

The win secured the Zone 8 qualification and locked in Brooks and Price for the Queensland state finals.

It is another significant achievement for the pair, who have built a reputation for performing when the pressure is at its highest.

They will represent Zone 8 and the Tropical Far North Queensland District against the best in the state come November.

For Weipa Bowls Club, it is another opportunity to showcase the impressive bowls talent on the Cape.

North Mackay Bowls Club (Goosies Sport & Recreation Club) hosts the Bowls Queensland State Champion of Club Champions from 14 to 21 November and Division 3 of the State Pennant Finals from 28 to 29 November.
