A perfect Sunday morning sunrise was just the cherry on top for Luke Puglisi, who secured the winner’s chocolate in his 10th game of Dawnbusters when 22 golfers took on the Carpentaria back nine on 23 August.

Scott Triffitt and Helen Sabatino led the charge with some of their best scores on the greens, carding a 39 and 41, respectively.

However, after handicaps were applied, Puglisi left them both in the dust with a 45 and net score of 8, his Dawnbusters personal best, to steal the morning’s victory.

Sabatino, taking second place, was relegated to bridesmaid despite a top performance equalling the score she achieved in May 2025, but added the women’s longest drive to her trophies for the morning to lessen the sting. Dawie Sutton brought out the big guns to secure the men’s longest drive.

Nearest the pin was difficult to crown, with Oliver Tata, Scott Triffitt and Brandon Warentini all landing 13 metres out. Despite various efforts and measurements, there was no clear winner, and Tata was eventually given the honours as the first of the group to land on the green.

Dawnbusters welcomed newcomers Bob Marshall, Duke Orme and Nisa Hoffman, who was obviously destined to take home the Hoffman’s crown from her inaugural competition.

New players are always welcome as Dawnbusters take on the back nine on 30 August, with an expected tee-off time of about 7 am.
