Never let it be said a little bit of rain will dampen the enthusiasm of Weipa’s parkrunners, 35 of whom were tested by wet conditions for parkrun #402 on 18 January. Photo: Facebook.

Thirty-five participants shook off early morning rain to get their weekly parkrun fix in Weipa on 18 January.

In a strong showing of club strength in the wet conditions, three first timers – Shona Hay, Laura Loucks and Winifred Johnson – were among the throng of competitors as they joined the Weipa parkrun family for event #402.

Despite the less-than-optimal performance conditions, Joshua Stanek, Luke O’Day, Tyrone Tuckwood and Richard Collins all stood up to be counted by recording personal best times over the 5-kilometre circuit.

Chrisden Russ was the first participant home in a time of 19 minutes, 46 seconds, with Emma Eyre the first woman to greet the waterlogged timekeepers in 28:29.

Ayda Robins, Camille Freiberg, Donna Jewell, Fiona Dyer, Judey Haeusler, Lily Jewell, Tash Tapper, Olive Robins, Rose Robins and Susan Tuckwood were on volunteer duty to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Weipa parkrun is held every Saturday morning – yes, even if it’s raining – from 7am at the hospital roundabout in Nanum.
