CAPE York’s own Australian Idol star Royston Sagigi-Baira needs your help if he’s to make the top-three of the popular TV talent quest.
As one of six contestants left on the show, Cape York’s votes have helped keep the XX-year-old on the stage, but the support is now needed more than ever as six becomes three after tonight’s live show.
The Mapoon product, who has family ties across the Cape and Torres Strait, said it had been a whirlwind experience to date and that he appreciated the support he’d received.
“It’s been crazy,” he told Cape York Weeklywith a smile.
“Everyone has been really supportive and I’m so grateful to all the people who have voted for me thus far.”
Royston said the live shows had been a highlight.
“The adrenaline gets going and they are a lot of fun,” he said.
“Hopefully I have two more weeks left.”
The Western Cape College graduate said he was proud of himself for getting to the top six, but wasn’t ready to call it quits just yet.
“This show had so much talent and I honestly didn’t think I’d get this far but I’m going to fight to get into the top 3,” Royston said.
“I know everyone is supporting me back in the Cape and I really appreciate them.”
While the winner of Australian Idol is guaranteed a recording contract with Sony, there is speculation that other contestants could get deals, or form a collaborative post-show.
“Sony is able to sign more people than just the winner so we all have our fingers crossed,” said Royston.
“I’ve gained so many followers since the show and I’m definitely going to be doing performances after Idol and build myself as an artist.
“It makes me feel warm when young kids come up to me and say they’re proud of me.”
