There were a few new faces holding their own against a parkrun veteran when participants laced up their shoes for the weekly community run on 29 August.
Top performer Chrisden Russ stopped the clock first in a time of 19 minutes, 14 seconds, but not without a couple of newbies hot on his heels.
Weipa parkrun first-timer Scott Perry (19:42), Brad Church (21:14) and Cooper Watson (22:35) made their maiden dash on the pavement count by greeting the timekeepers 2nd, 3rd and 4th in a field of 64.
Ryan Gillam (23:19), William Nevin (24:42) and Ariel Ampado (24:46) completed the five-kilometre circuit in record time to cruise into the top 10.
Michael Rex, Daniel Carter, Eliana Rex, Sierra Pollard and Carmen Dixon were the other participants to notch up PB efforts.
This week’s volunteering thanks went to Tyrone Tuckwood, Nanthini Kanthan, Vide Freiberg, Donna Jewell, Alice Westera, Emma Pitman, Colin Wei and Susan Tuckwood.
Anyone wanting to join the parkrun excitement every Saturday morning can do so by assembling at the shelter next to the hospital roundabout in Nanum before the starter’s pistol fires at 7 o’clock.
