Search on for missing Aurukun man, 60

Police have launched a search and rescue operation on western Cape York after a 60-year-old Aurukun man was reported missing today (1 February).

Initial information indicates Adam Yunkaporta (pictured below) was last seen leaving his home at around 12pm on 30 January, and is believed to have gone fishing at the mouth of the Ward, Watson and Archer rivers.

Police, State Emergency Service volunteers, aerial assets and a wildlife ranger have been deployed to the region, and the search effort is ongoing.

Adam is described as Indigenous with brown eyes and dark short hair, and he was last seen wearing black shorts and a blue fishing shirt depicting an image of a barramundi.

Police are appealing for Mr Yunkaporta, or anyone with information regarding his whereabouts, to come forward.
