Golfers were at the mercy of Weipa heat when 23 Dawnbusters took on the Carpentaria Golf Club front nine on 27 September.
Competitors struggled to acclimatise as the region began its goodbyes to the cooler months, with no great scores worth bragging about produced on Sunday.
Helen Sabatino (45), Les Sariman (45) and Eddie Tiemens (46) were the best of the bunch off the stick, but when handicaps were applied, it was Tiemens and Randal O’Neill who were neck and neck for the morning’s win.
Following a countback, it was Tiemens who secured the melting chocolates with his 46/14, while O’Neill had to be content with the Bridesmaid award with his score of 52/14.
Sabatino was rewarded for her efforts on the course, taking out the women’s longest drive and pin prize to boot. Leeroy Ahmat, though struggling in the heat with a 51 off the stick, managed to show some composure with his first shot of the day to bag the men’s longest drive.
Lilly Pembar, steadily emerging as a regular wearer of the Hoffman’s crown, took back the award after losing out to newbie Michael Hicks last week.
New players are always welcome as Dawnbusters take on the back nine on 4 October, with an expected tee-off time of about 7 am.
Dawnbusters are also reminded to ensure they have their 10 games in for the championships scheduled on 8 November.
