Dwayne Brooks and Patricia Price have etched their names into Weipa Bowls Club history, claiming the Tropical Far North Queensland District Champion of Champions Mixed Pairs title after a superb undefeated campaign in Yungaburra late last month.

Having first won the Weipa Bowls Club Mixed Pairs Championship to qualify, Brooks and Price travelled south to take on the best champion pairs from across 10 clubs in the district.

By the end of the tournament, they had proven they were the best of them all.

Their title-winning run began with a hard-fought 20–17 quarter-final victory over Mareeba, where the Weipa duo held their nerve in a tense finish to book their place in the semi-finals.

Confidence continued to build as they produced one of their strongest performances of the weekend, defeating South Johnstone 24–13 in the semi-final.

Consistent drawing, well-timed conversions and excellent teamwork saw the pair control the match from start to finish.

The championship decider saw Brooks and Price face the highly regarded Edge Hill (Cairns) combination.

With the district title on the line, the Weipa representatives rose to the occasion, delivering another polished display to secure a convincing 23–13 victory.

The win crowns Brooks and Price as the 2026 Tropical Far North Queensland District Champion of Champions Mixed Pairs Champions, a remarkable achievement for both players and a proud moment for Weipa Bowls Club.

The success is a testament to the pair’s dedication, composure under pressure and ability to perform when it mattered most.

It also highlights the strength of bowls in Weipa, with the club now able to boast the district’s premier mixed pairs combination.

The club congratulated Brooks and Price on a fantastic achievement and for bringing another major district title back to the town.
