The school holidays took its toll on the field for Weipa parkrun #427 on 12 July with 29 participants tackling the 5-kilometre circuit.
Seven first timers packed into the field, including Julie Foster from the Macarthur Triathlon club, who was the first participant to salute the timekeepers in 24 minutes, 38 seconds.
Fellow newbie Kevin Lowe also impressed by being the first male across the finish line in 24:44.
No personal best (PB) performances were recorded on the day.
Geoff Robins, Camille Freiberg, Tiffany Barder, Olive Robins, Fiona Dyer, Melanie Brewer and Georgie Jenkins donned the red volunteer vests this week to give participants a helping hand.
Those who have entered to compete in the 2025 Weipa Running Festival on 20 July will have one last chance to fine tune their preparation next Saturday morning when Weipa parkrun marks its eighth birthday.
Since the first Weipa parkrun was held on 23 July 2016, 2,180 participants have notched up more than 85,000km in setting 2,399 PBs.
Community members are welcome to join the 5km celebration as participants put on their party hats at the shelter at the hospital roundabout in Nanum at 7am.
Runners are asked to muster by 6:45am to allow the starter’s gun to fire on time.
