THE Weipa Raiders continued their strong start to the Western Cape Rugby League competition with a convincing 36-20 win against Aurukun at Andoom Oval.
Energised after beating their local rivals a fortnight earlier, the Raiders were in control from start to finish against the Kang Kang, playing their first match of the season after an opening round bye.
Weipa recruit Richard Joinbee put on a clinic in the centres, scoring three tries and kicking four goals. Other try scorers for the home side were Thomas Ketchell, Gregory Hudson, Joe Bond and Trevor Callope.
There were no try scorers recorded for Aurukun.
In the later game, the Napranum Bulldogs bounced back from their round one defeat to trounce the undermanned Old Mapoon Brumbies.
In a one-sided contest, the Bulldogs won 86-6. No try scorers were supplied.
The next round of matches will be in Weipa on June 18.
