After departing Weipa and then Thursday Island, the MV Trinity Bay ran aground at Harrington Shoal on Tuesday, January 19.
“The 80-metre vessel, which was south-bound carrying minimal cargo, grounded at low tide near the tip of Cape York Peninsula at around 8am with 11 crew on board,” acting CEO Lino Bruno said in a statement.
“The vessel naturally re-floated with the rising tide and was inspected thoroughly, which confirmed no damage to the vessel and no risk posed to the environment.
“All crew on board are safe and the vessel is presently en route to Cairns with minor delays expected.
“Sea Swift has launched a full investigation, and we are working closely with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to find out the cause of this incident.
“Sea Swift employs experienced and qualified seafarers, and has strict processes and procedures that contribute to an outstanding safety track record.
“I’d like to reassure all key stakeholders, including our valued customers, that we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation.”
