Rain mars championships
A WET season storm caused havoc with the Wednesday Wackers championships last week.
Fourteen players braved the conditions until most had to retreat for the halfway house when the heavy rain hit.
A group decision was made to award the championships off the best scores after four holes.
Ross Craven was crowned winner of A-grade from Grant Crossley, B-grade went to Jim Hunter from Viv Chan, while C-grade was taken out by Rob Richardson, who pipped Stretch Noonan.
Prizes this year were Yeti drink bottles beautifully engraved by Tracey Small.
Small field on Sunday
VIV Chan only had to beat six rivals to be crowned the Dawn Busters winner on Sunday morning.
She beat Grant Crossley for honours, with Jon Dall rounding out the field.
Jim Hunter had both the nearest to pin and longest drive.
Butler wins big
RICK Butler had a brilliant nett 63 to be the winner of Cooktown Golf Club’s medal of medals qualifier on Saturday.
While Butler had already qualified, four players were attempting to take the final two spots in the medal of medals field.
The ever-present Wal Welsh finished second with a nett 68 while Jamie Dobson, who missed an eagle opportunity, came third with a nett 69.
Nearest the pins went to Steve Butler 2/11 and Rick Butler sunk a 15 foot curler to take 9/18.
This week’s medal of medals will be played on Sunday.
