THE Archer River claimed another scalp on the weekend when a man driving a Nissan Navara was swept off the causeway.
Cape York Weeklyhas chosen not to identify the driver but he is well known in the region and knew of the dangers of crossing the river when in full flood.
Police are believed to be investigating the driver’s actions.
The Navara was wedged on the side of the causeway until a Toyota LandCruiser also drove across, with the wake of the water pushing the Nissan off the causeway.
Construction of a bridge across the Archer River starts soon but is not expected to be finished until next year, meaning at least one more wet season to deal with.
