Her unscheduled visit caught locals off guard and it means that Ms Lui will be unable to have key meetings with several leaders in the community.
Cape York Weekly learned of the visit via third-party sources last week and contacted Ms Lui’s office for a schedule and to organise an interview.
However, the second-term MP did not respond.
What can be confirmed is that she will sit down with Rio Tinto Weipa, Western Cape College, Weipa Community Care, staff at the Weipa Hospital and a last-minute gathering with the Chamber of Commerce.
Ms Lui will be unable to meet with Weipa Town Authority chair Michael Rowland, who will be in Cairns for a regional meeting with other Cape York leaders.
It is unlikely that she will be driving to Mapoon.
Weipa locals will also struggle to get an appointment with the MP as she only advertised the visit on her Facebook page on Saturday.
Those who saw it were urged to contact the office to make an appointment, however the office was closed over the weekend.
Cape York Weekly will attempt to organise a sit-down interview with Ms Lui to discuss some of the pressing issues facing the region in 2021 and beyond.
