At the invitation of pioneering Torres Strait basketball legend Danny Morseu, Mills was mobbed by locals as he walked off the ferry and onto the wharf.
Mills has a limited amount of time in Australia following the historic Olympics campaign with the Boomers, which saw the Australian men’s basketball team pick up their first major medal.
On return from Tokyo, he had to complete hotel quarantine and has been soaking up his stint by spending time with wife Alyssa and parents Benny and Yvonne.
On Sunday, kids were thrilled to get an autograph with Mills, as well as plenty of “selfies”.
Mills and his family were greeted by Torres Strait Elders, as well as both mayors.
Following his whirlwind trip to the Torres Strait, Mills will get back on a plane and fly to New York where he will link up with his new NBA side the Brooklyn Nets.
