The 19 competitors who teed off at Carpentaria Golf Club on 12 January were met with tropical conditions as they vied for weekly Dawnbusters glory.

Simon Ayles shot an impressive 49 off the stick to set up a round-winning nett 16, with Chelsea Buckley going painfully close to pinching the chocolates by carding a nett 17 and taking bridesmaid honours.

In a morning filled with prizes, Buckley also grabbed the Hoffman’s crown, but fell one short of the trifecta when her drive failed to stay on the fairway, ending her hopes of bagging the women’s long drive bragging rights.

Dave Sands wielded the big stick to take out the men’s long drive, while the short clubs seemed to be everyone’s nemesis on the day as the pin prize on the 9th hole went unclaimed.

Although conditions were challenging, it merely strengthened the resolve of golfers for when they return to the Weipa course on 19 January for the next instalment of Dawnbusters fun.

Players will tackle the back nine from about 6:15am, with new members and social golfers always welcome.
