Sharon Booth is an integral member of the Mapoon health care clinic and just notched 25 years’ service.
A MAPOON worker has marked an incredible milestone after celebrating 25 years in the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service.
Sharon Booth is a Mapoon local who has been working at the local clinic since 1997.
Weipa Hospital’s senior medical officer Riley Savage, who works alongside Ms Booth, said she had the trust of her community.
She said as a senior health worker Ms Booth was responsible for helping ensure patients attended their appointments and monitored those in the community who required extra support.
“She also has her finger on the pulse of what is going on in the community and is able to relay that to staff, such as if there is sorry business that the clinic staff need to be mindful of,” Dr Booth said.
“She goes above and beyond to support the people of Mapoon.”
TCHHS executive general manager Ian Power said Indigenous health workers were an integral part of delivering health care.
“We congratulate Sharon on reaching this milestone and thank her for her dedication to the people of Mapoon and the TCHHS,” he said.
Mapoon mayor Aileen Addo also paid tribute to Ms Booth.
“She has been very supportive to members of the community.”
