Around 180 people walked the 42km between Archer River and the Coen biosecurity centre over Saturday and Sunday.
Regarded as a mental health walk that encourages people to have a conversation along the way, this year’s Conquer was also a physical challenge.
The mercury soared into the high 30s on both days and there was little breeze to speak of on the dusty Peninsula Developmental Road.
Conquer the Corrugations co-founder and organiser Shelly Radlof now works in Gove but flew back to Weipa to take part in this year’s event.
She said she was thrilled to see so many new faces, including a large contingent from Napranum.
“Everyone has their own reason to be on this walk. They might know someone who has suffered from depression, or they might be facing their own mental health challenges,” she said.
“And then there are some who come for the social aspect and find themselves opening up along the way. That’s what’s so great about Conquer. It brings together so many people from all different walks of life.”
There were many different funky outfits on display, with one of the highlights the dresses worn by a Cook Shire contingent.
