The annual event will be held from September 3 to 5, with the expectation that the fishing days will be Friday and Saturday in a small change to the format.
Because Father’s Day is on Sunday, September 5, the Weipa Fishing Classic committee had been hoping to make it a family-friendly day at the showgrounds, rather than have people out in boats all day.
“We’re still confirming the format but having the Friday public holiday gives us options,” president Aaron Schleich said.
“We’re hoping to have a big event this year after a modified virtual event in 2020.”
The Weipa Fishing Classic holiday was originally set down for June 7 but has now been shifted officially to September 3.
