A 24-year-old female Constable from the Far Northern Region has been served with a notice to appear for allegedly possessing liquor in a restricted area.

The officer is suspended from the Queensland Police Service and is expected to appear in the Kowanyama Magistrates Court on January 18, 2024, charged with one count of possession of liquor in a restricted area.

Cape York Weekly understands the officer was based in Kowanyama at the time of the alleged offence.

There are alcohol restrictions in 15 local government areas across Queensland, including Kowanyama.

The last time an officer was caught with alcohol in a restricted area was in March 2019.

The Aurukun-based Constable was sacked from the Queensland Police Service as a result.
