RIO Tinto’s Indigenous Employment and Development team are gearing up for another jam-packed year of programs, activities and events across Cape York.
With two new team members, Marvin Bell and Justice Mango, joining Rosselle Canilao, Sasha Busch and Kathy Pablo, a full year of targeted programs will continue to roll out with a focus on engaging with schools and communities in the region.
With a vision to provide a culturally competent workplace that promotes increased access, participation, retention and advancement for Indigenous people, the Rio Tinto team is committed to helping individuals achieve their aspirations.
Weipa operations general manager Shona Markham said she was impressed by what the team offered.
“I love to hear the success stories of the kids and adults we engage with, who move into exciting work both within Rio Tinto and the wider community,” she said.
“I’m excited by and proud of all the work we’re doing with local communities that we have the privilege to work with.
“Having said that, we are always listening and looking for new ways to engage with the local communities.”
The first visit will be on April 26 in Napranum, followed by the Northern Peninsula Area on May 5 and 6.
The team will be in Mapoon on May 11 and Aurukun on May 17 and 18.
